Silvi Glattauer

As with many of my images, this body of work is inspired by one of the world's driest regions and deserts, the Sahara Desert, which I visited in Morocco.

The Sahara's intense heat and strong winds influenced my creative process, transforming the shapes and patterns in my artworks. In this harsh environment, I manipulate elements to create a sense of things appearing and disappearing, reflecting the desert's disorienting nature. My art blends digital and handmade techniques to invite viewers to experience the shifting beauty of these landscapes, where reality and illusion blur in the sands of perception.

I am a photo-media artist rooted in Naarm - Melbourne, Australia. My artistic journey is a fusion of digital innovation and tactile craftsmanship, showcasing a particular expertise in the modern Photogravure technique. I navigate the intersection of digital and handmade methods.

Rita Lazauskas

A practicing artist since 1990, having worked in public galleries as a curator for 20 years, I am now leading a life of adventure facilitatingarts projects in Morocco, working with high calibre Australian and international artists and the contemporary and traditional artisans of Morocco.

Living between Marrakech and Beechworth in NE Victoria I maintain my own arts practice and have a passion for drawing and painting. I enjoy working from observation, responding to people and place, as well as employing narrative and the exploration of identity, human nature, society and history.

The exhibition Tales of Earth & Veil brings together different series of works and approaches to image making explored during the last 10+ years of living and working in Morocco.
Urban landscapes filled with dense housing and peppered with satellite dishes; traditional dress, turbans, veils and robes; the colours of the landscape, ochres and red earth; strange birds.

A room with a view.
The evening light is setting over the buildings and over the mountains in the distance.
Kids are playing in the streets.
On one of the rooftops a couple of women are chatting and laughing.
The call to prayer sings over the village.
It's warm.
There is no need for perfection.
Yet it is perfect.

The taxis are yellow in Marrakech, all of them, and all of them moving always, especially at round-abouts at which they never stop, they just keep moving forwards and slide in. Going around.

On the roadside, hold your hand up with fingers indicating desired direction and number of people in your party, give a couple of minutes and a yellow (always) taxi will stop. Most likely already with a passenger or two, never mind, a discussion takes place, French, Arabic, but never mind parcels will be moved to the boot and soon you are in and moving.
